Rangers target Lyndon Dykes makes ‘huge’ transfer decision, set for big payday

Rangers target Lyndon Dykes is set to join Birmingham City from Queens Park Rangers in a £1million deal, according to HITC.

The online outlet reported via its website on Tuesday (27 August) that Birmingham have seen off competition from Rangers, Cardiff City and Preston North End for the attacker’s signature.

Dykes, who the Gers were keeping a close eye on this summer, is set to become the highest-paid player in League One.

Journalist Graeme Bailey described the move as “amazing” and “huge” for Birmingham, who were relegated to the third tier last season.

Lyndon Dykes is not a big loss for Rangers

Rangers have been linked with Dykes on and off throughout the summer, but missing out on the Scotsman is hardly a major blow.

The Gers have Cyriel Dessers up top and the Nigerian deserves the full backing of the fanbase after a solid start to the campaign.

It is unknown just how interested the Light Blues were in Dykes. If the interest was strong, then missing out to Birmingham City is a bit of an embarrassment.

The £1m fee is hardly earth-shattering by Rangers’ standards, even if the club are having to be wise with money.

However, it is more likely that the Gers instead turned focus to other targets, and that makes sense as Dykes is not good enough to lead the line.

Hearts skipper Lawrence Shankland remains the ideal target, although news on that front has gone very quiet of late.

Let’s hope that, one way or another, there is at least one more arrival at Ibrox before the 30 August deadline.

In other Rangers news, Todd Cantwell may be paid off to leave Ibrox.
