Cyriel Dessers exit update emerges at Rangers ahead of 30 August transfer deadline

Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers is “going absolutely nowhere” before the 30 August transfer deadline, according to Chris Jack.

The Rangers Review journalist reported via YouTube on Monday (26 August) that the Nigerian striker is unlikely to depart Ibrox even if the Light Blues’ asking price is met before the transfer window slams shut.

Dessers is understood to be happy in Glasgow and in no rush to depart this summer, with reports suggesting he rejected a move to MLS side Atlanta United earlier in the window [Luca Bendoni, 20 August].

Speaking on the Rangers Review Morning Briefing, Jack said: “Big Cyriel by all accounts is going absolutely nowhere.

“Even if Rangers do get an offer that they think matches his value, he seems really happy here. The manager again referenced that on Saturday.

“He’s such a big player to the squad now that it’s a bigger call to sell him than not sell him. Rangers can’t actually now afford to sell Cyriel Dessers.”

Will Cyriel Dessers exit Rangers amid Ibrox transfer rumours?

Few would have expected Dessers to be one of the Gers’ most important players this season, but the Nigerian international has shown in the early stages of the campaign that he is crucial to Philippe Clement’s project.

Yes, he is still occasionally guilty of a poor touch or some sloppy build-up play, but his record since arriving in Scotland is impressive and he has quite quickly become the most reliable source of goals in Clement’s squad.

The only thing the forward still needs to do is perform in an Old Firm game to show that he has what it takes to fire the Light Blues to a Premiership title and he has the perfect opportunity to do so at Parkhead.

If Dessers could score against Celtic and help the Gers to a famous derby win over their Glasgow rivals days after the transfer window closes, he will have surely then managed to win over the entirety of the Rangers fanbase.
