Neil McCann has questioned if Tom Lawrence is committed to Philippe Clement and Rangers ahead of the August 30 transfer deadline.

The Welshman has struggled during his time at Ibrox, sustaining several injuries since arriving from Derby County in the summer of 2022, but he has played a much more important role under Clement.

Despite this, Lawrence has notched just six goals and five assists in 45 appearances, failing to stamp the required impact in the attacking third, and McCann has suggested that he may have checked out at Ibrox.

Speaking live via BBC Sportscene on Saturday (24 August, 2:08pm), he said: "I think that [attacking midfield] is Tom Lawrence's best position, but I don't think he's got the goals you're looking for from a number 10. I don't think he's a creative number 10 - he doesn't play with his back to goal.

"A genuine number 10 likes to come short, spin in behind, play short one-twos, being really inventive, but he doesn't want to run beyond the strikers or have shots from the edge of the box. He's not done it yet.

"I don't know if Lawrence's head is fully committed to Rangers. You can probably say that about a couple of players but I do think it's his best position."

Has Tom Lawrence checked out at Rangers?

With it understood that the 30-year-old was pushing for a reunion with former Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Besiktas earlier this summer [Fanatik], his mind wandering could be a real possibility.

Given how much the midfielder has struggled during his time in Scotland, sustaining several injuries, it would not be a surprise if Lawrence wants to depart and start afresh elsewhere.

Having only made 45 appearances since the summer of 2022, Lawrence would have hoped for a much better career at Ibrox, but his struggles likely would have had a major impact.

Despite this, he has become an integral part of Clement's squad, especially during pre-season, and has been given the nod in each of the Gers' opening six games of the season in all competitions.

If Lawrence is to remain at Ibrox after the 30 August deadline, he must prove himself in front of the home crowd throughout the season, adding many more goals and assists to his record.
