Todd Cantwell's chances of departing Rangers for Trabzonspor are closing after an update from Turkish sources, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported on Wednesday (21 August, page 44) that the Turkish Super Lig side are said to be interested in the 26-year-old midfielder.

Cantwell has previously handed in a transfer request to Philippe Clement [Sky Sports], but the player's route out of Ibrox could be closing, with a shortage of offers emerging.

Todd Cantwell to remain at Rangers?

The Cantwell saga at Ibrox continues to unravel since Clement revealed the midfielder's stance on an exit during a post-match press conference earlier this summer.

Reaction to that moment has not been positive for any parties, with the 26-year-old being made to train away from the first team, and fans making their feelings known about the player.

Cantwell has experienced a mixed spell in Scotland since arriving from Norwich City last summer, though he has been an attacking spark in the manager's squad since his appointment in October.

That is maybe why many were shocked by the news that the player was keen on leaving the club, especially with the support shown to him by Clement in recent months.

Despite his desire to continue his career elsewhere, it is looking less and less likely that the Gers will be able to find him a new club, with just nine days of the transfer window remaining.

Todd Cantwell, Rangers

Cantwell has the ability to be something special for the Gers, notching 14 goals and 12 assists in 64 matches, but he will need to earn the fans' respect back if a move away does not materialise in the coming days.

He has certainly made his life in Scotland much harder following this recent saga, so the player will likely be hoping that a last-gasp bid comes in over the next week.
