Rangers to be very busy in final week of transfer window after 7-figure bid tabled
Rangers are expected to be busy in the remainder of the transfer window before the deadline, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist told GiveMeSport on 23 August that after Almeria rejected an offer for Kaiky the Light Blues are expected to remain active in the final week of the market.
Ben Davies is set to leave on a loan-to-buy move to Birmingham City so a replacement centre-back could be targeted, but it is not clear whether will make another run at Brazilian Kaiky after a loan-to-buy worth a total of €8million [£6.78m].
Romano said: “They tried to sign Kaiky in the last 24 hours, they had a bid rejected from Almeria. It was close to €1million, plus a buy option around €7million. Almeria are not selling the player for these conditions.
“So let’s see if Rangers will decide to return or not, but I think Rangers will be also quite, quite busy. That position has to be covered, the centre-back position. And then let’s see some other opportunity in the last minute. For sure, that could be a possibility.”
Rangers Kaiky bid rejected as Ben Davies set to leave
With Davies set to move on it is expected to free up Clement to make moves in the final day as the English defender is said to be on a “big” contract at Ibrox [Daily Record, 23 August].
The offer for Kaiky was a big one, and with around £4million thought to be on the cards to make Oscar Cortes’ loan permanent next summer already [Herald, 1 June] it might make it hard to make new signings at the end of the season.
It remains to be seen whether the Light Blues would be willing to go higher with their offer for the Brazilian, but the fact that Almeria have just sold Largie Ramazani to Leeds United for around £10million [Yorkshire Evening Post, 23 August] will have strengthened the Spanish side’s negotiating position.

Even if a centre-back is brought in to replace Davies there still looks to be a need for another midfielder, and in light of Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi being out in the cold, a number 10.
Another left-back would be preferable despite Jefte’s arrival due to the fact that Ridvan Yilmaz has proven so injury-prone, and fans would love to see a new striker come through the door but that seems unlikely to be possible barring something unexpected.
