Rangers in ‘disappointing’ Old Firm debate after Celtic allocation admission

Dan Bardell thinks it’s a shame that no away fans will be at the first two Old Firm’s of the season after the recent Rangers announcement.

The Gers confirmed on 14 August that no allocation for away fans for the upcoming derby after failing to reach an agreement with Celtic.

This means that yet again there will be no visiting supporters at Ibrox or Parkhead for potentially another season.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell feels let down by this news suggesting it hampers Scottish football as a prospect.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “Once one of them had done that, the other was always going to follow suit.

It is a shame because it is one of the most revered derbies in world football. Obviously, sometimes it goes too far but what makes the fixture special is the atmosphere.

It is disappointing for Scottish football really. Two of the biggest games of the league season are going to be played without fans again.

It’s happened for good reason but once one wouldn’t let fans in, the other was never going to.

Rangers in Old Firm fan debate with Celtic

As soon as the Gers made the decision to bar away fans from coming to Ibrox in September it was always going to be likely that Celtic followed suit.

This is certainly of great disappointment to everyone associated with both clubs and broadcasters.

The tit-for-tat nature of this argument for both clubs is frankly embarrassing and an agreement may eventually be forced through by the league organisers.

As a club who are now out of the Champions League and are in need of financial benefit wherever they can find it, cheapening the main product they can offer is a bizarre choice.

By stopping away fans from coming into Ibrox, there is less atmosphere and a strange silence over the ground should the opposition score.

With that being said, the two clubs need to come to an agreement before this debacle goes on for too much longer.
