Rangers stance on Domagoj Bradaric transfer shared after Salernitana exit update
Chris Jack has admitted he “would be amazed” if Rangers sign a new left-back ahead of the transfer deadline amid links with Domagoj Bradaric.
Reports emerged suggesting the Light Blues were interested in signing the 24-year-old this summer on a loan-to-buy basis, who Salernitana are understood to value at £4.2million [Index, 18 August].
While the Light Blues’ options on the left of defence are limited following Ridvan Yilmaz’s injury, Rangers Review journalist Jack thinks Clement will look to bolster his ranks elsewhere instead.
Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel (19 August) he said: “I will quote what the manager said when he was asked if he would bring in another left-back.
“Clement said, ‘I don’t think we have the assets to do things like that now. I think we need to put all the focus on the positions we need in the squad for the rest of the season’.
“I would be amazed given all the business Rangers have to do, given how busy this next couple of weeks has to be for them, if a left-back is the next player in the building.
“I think the manager almost killed that one dead on Friday, so with all the deal and all the links over the next couple of weeks, I don’t see a left-back being one of them.”
Will Rangers sign Domagoj Bradaric amid Ibrox transfer rumours?
As Jack suggests, the Light Blues have a lot of work to do between now and the end of the transfer window as they look to close the gap to Celtic at the top of the table.
Most supporters would still like to see another striker added to Clement’s ranks before 30 August, while a new midfielder and potentially some reinforcements at centre-back may also be on the agenda.
Although a new left-back would be a boost immediately because of the injury to Yilmaz, it could be an issue once the Turkish defender returns to the fold as Clement will have three players competing for one position.
However, things can change quickly in the transfer window and should a deal be struck between the Gers and Salernitana that suits all parties, maybe this deal could progress further before the window slams shut.
But judging by the updates from both Clement and Jack in recent days, it feels unlikely that Bradaric will be plying his trade in Glasgow anytime soon.
