Gustavo Puerta agent known to Rangers as new transfer wanted at Ibrox
Rangers have an “advantage” in their pursuit of signing Gustavo Puerta from Bayer Leverkusen, according to Futbol Red (12 August).
The Colombian outlet backed up a story from the Daily Record (12 August) that Puerta is represented by Top Athlete Management, the same agents who represent his international team-mate Oscar Cortes.
Futbol Red suggested this could give the Gers the advantage in their pursuit of the midfielder, with the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Brondy, PAOK and Anderlecht also monitoring the situation
It comes hot on the heels of news that Rangers have reportedly put forward a bid (Tipsbladet, 12 August) for the 21-year-old.
Rangers make moves
Given the excitement in the air surrounding Cortes’ initial loan stint, it makes sense that there’s a lot of optimism surrounding this potential deal for his international team-mate. At the age of just 21, Puerta has already made enough noise to warrant interest from a parade of clubs.

While he may have made just seven league appearances last season (FBref), he did enough to impress. He was also learning under a squad that, against all odds, went unbeaten in the Bundesliga. That kind of success can generate an insane level of confidence in a young player.
For Rangers, it’s all about finding team cohesion. The boss understands that they face an uphill challenge in order to challenge for the Scottish Premiership. So, instead of sitting back on what you’ve got, why not take a chance of some exciting, promising youngsters?
It’s exactly the kind of mentality you need to have at this level and it’s fascinating to see.
