Rangers v Dynamo Kyiv team news as Philippe Clement confirms one major doubt
Philippe Clement has confirmed that Leon Balogun is a big doubt for the second leg of the Rangers versus Dynamo Kyiv tie.
Balogun started the first leg but sustained an injury when coming on as a second-half substitute in the half-time win over Motherwell.
The centre-back did not take part in training on the eve of Tuesday’s (13 August) Champions League qualifying second-leg with Dynamo at Hampden Park.
“We have one doubt for tomorrow,” Clement said at Monday’s (11 August) press conference.
“Leon Balogun felt something at the end of the match – he didn’t train today.
“It is about making the choices tomorrow on who needs to start after a quick turnaround.”
Philippe Clement has big decision to make at the back
Balogun struggled when replacing Robin Propper against Motherwell and many would have backed him to miss out in this next match anyway.
Clement’s hand has been forced regardless, with Balogun surely in no condition to start if he was not fit enough to train 36 hours before the match.
As reported by Mark Benstead live on Sky Sports earlier on Monday (12 August), Clement’s biggest issue is who starts in the heart of defence.
It now looks likely that Propper, whose minutes are being managed, will line up alongside John Souttar, and will hopefully this time last the full 90 minutes.
Clement made clear that Balogun is the only injury concern, so it is now a case of getting all the new signings fully up to speed.
Whoever is selected to start at Hampden Park, it is imperative the Gers get the job done and make it one step closer to the Champions League proper.
It has been a mixed start to the campaign thus far, with a win and two draws, but victory over Dynamo Kyiv will lift the mood massively.
