Jose Cifuentes could make debut in days as Rangers transfer now ready

Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes could make his Aris Thessaloniki debut against Atromitos on Sunday (18 August), according to The Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reported via its website [12 August] that the 25-year-old could feature in the Greek Super League once he completes his medical ahead of an Ibrox exit.

It is understood that the player’s medical is scheduled for Monday night (12 August), as per Sport24, joining on an initial one-year loan with a mandatory buy-clause worth £4.3million.

He was also spotted in a Greek airport on Monday ahead of his medical with Aris Thessaloniki [Yellow Radio].

Jose Cifuentes to depart Rangers as Aris Thessaloniki deal nears

The Ecuadorian will certainly be hoping his next loan move works out much better than his spell in Brazil with Cruizero, though the Gers will not be as invested due to the mandatory buy clause.

He has certainly failed to impress at Ibrox since arriving on a £1.2million deal last summer [Sky Sports], though it was another one of Michael Beale’s transfers that did not pan out.

And with Connor Barron and Mohamed Diomande now forming a partnership in the middle of the park, Philippe Clement is no longer in need of a different midfielder.

With just 20 appearances for the Gers since joining, there will be no love lost between the player and the fans, but many in Scotland will be pleased with the future price tag on Cifuentes’ head.

Getting £3million profit from a player who failed to make it in the Scottish Premiership before flopping in Brazil is nothing short of brilliant business from John Bennett.

Jose Cifuentes, Rangers
Jose Cifuentes does not have a future at Rangers.

While the fans will have no attachment to the player for much longer, some will still want to see him develop after a tough season at Ibrox, though others will wonder why he couldn’t make it with the Gers if he improves.

It seems as though Cifuentes’ move to Greece could not be any closer, soon to be following in Connor Goldson and Sam Lammers’ footsteps out of the Ibrox exit door.
