Jim White shares ‘huge’ Philippe Clement claim at Rangers live on air today
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has a “huge job” on his hands to beat Celtic to this season’s Scottish Premiership title, according to Jim White.
Speaking on talkSPORT (12 August, 10:42am), White questioned if the Gers had done anything so far this season to suggest that they’d be able to prevent their Old Firm rivals “romping” to another league title.
Acknowledging the departure of CEO James Bisgrove – who is still yet to be replaced within the Ibrox hierarchy [Chris Jack, 9 July] – White argued that Philippe Clement knew exactly how big the task at hand is this season.
He said: “Is there anything to tell us things are going to be different this season, other than Celtic romping it?
“It’s a huge job for Philippe Clement – he knows what he’s got himself into. James Bisgrove has left, the man at the top.”
Rangers must close gap on Celtic before transfer window deadline
As if Clement’s task of toppling Celtic in this season’s transfer race – denying their Old Firm rivals a record-equalling 55th title – wasn’t big enough, he’s also had to lead a mass overhauling of his squad.
The Belgian is slowly but surely developing a side built in his image, but there is plenty of work still to be done before he and the Gers fanbase can truly be satisfied with the team at his disposal.

While some of the Bears’ nine new signings, including the ever-present Connor Barron and Motherwell match-winner Vaclav Cerny, have impressed, others are yet to have a sniff of first-team action.
Nine players, who had accumulated hundreds of matches worth of experience, being moved on and replaced by untried and untested youngsters will not be enough for the Gers to win the title this season.
Therefore, with business needed before the 30 August deadline in order to achieve a squad on a par with Celtic’s, Clement must do all he can from here on in to push his Rangers rebuild into overdrive.
