Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes has had his loan deal at Cruzeiro terminated, according to Samuca TV.

The YouTube channel reported on 8 August that the 25-year-old has agreed to end his deal with the Brazilian side and return to Ibrox.

This has been done so that the Ecuador international can complete a transfer away from the Light Blues, to join Aris Thessaloniki in Greece.

Jose Cifuentes set for Rangers return

The versatile midfielder has struggled to apply himself in the Brazilian Serie A and now looks set for a return to Glasgow early.

Cifuentes doesn't look like he will feature for Philippe Clement's side before being sent back out on loan to Greece immediately.

This almost symbolises the fortunes of the Ecuadorian at Ibrox after joining from Los Angeles FC in 2023 after 120 appearances for the MLS side [FotMob].

After featuring in just 20 matches for the Gers, the midfielder was sent out but hasn't found any sort of form in Brazil unfortunately.

It could be said that a return to Rangers as a squad option could make sense for all parties but that doesn't appear to be likely.

Clement has already integrated new signing Connor Barron into his starting XI and Cifuentes could prove to be a potentially useful backup option.

A move away is what the club have opted for and the 25-year-old looks set for a move to Greece.
