Rangers' hopes of signing Abdallah Sima ahead of the August transfer deadline are not "completely dead", according to Chris Jack.

Philippe Clement has admitted that the Light Blues have been in talks with Brighton for the attacker who spent last season on loan in Glasgow, but a deal wasn't possible at that point of the summer [Rangers Review, 15 July].

While it remains to be seen if the Light Blues can now afford to sign the Senegal international, or if Brighton will sell him, Rangers Review journalist Jack suggests a deal still could be struck.

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel (8 August, 10:05) he said: "The manager has mentioned Abdallah Sima over the last couple of weeks.

"That one doesn't seem to be completely dead yet. If Rangers could get him in, then the loan has had an extra benefit."

Will Abdallah Sima exit Brighton amid Rangers transfer speculation?

A lot of Micheal Beale's signings last summer took a long time to adapt to the Premiership, but from the minute he stepped foot in Glasgow Sima looked the part and impressed in a Rangers shirt.

Injuries may well have slowed down his displays and the second half of the season was nowhere near as impressive as his opening few months, but he was arguably one of the Light Blues best outfield players last term.

If a deal can be struck with Brighton, securing his signature permanently would be a no-brainer for Clement. He would provide further depth across the frontline while also not needing time to settle into Glasgow.

It doesn't seem as though a deal is close, but while the hopes of a transfer aren't "dead" as Jack suggested, Rangers still have a chance of bringing Sima back to Ibrox in the final weeks of the window.

Hopefully, some sort of breakthrough can be reached sooner rather than later. This could be one of the best transfers the Gers complete under Clement.
