Scott Wright Rangers axe mooted vs Motherwell despite Philippe Clement ‘value’ verdict
Keith Jackson thinks Scott Wright will be axed when Rangers face Motherwell this weekend despite conceding Philippe Clement thinks the winger has “value”.
The 27-year-old had yet another below-par performance against Dynamo Kyiv in their Champions League third-round qualifying first leg on Tuesday and was hooked at half-time for Jefte in the 1-1 draw.
Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline (7 August), Jackson stated that he can’t see it happening for Wright after he put out yet another poor performance and doubts he’ll be in the XI at Hampden on Saturday (10 August).
“I don’t know if Scott Wright will be in the starting lineup for a third successive game against Motherwell,” Jackson said.
“I would doubt it but there’s a feeling that Philippe Clement wants Scott Wright around the place and thinks he’s got value.
“I feel a wee bit sorry for Scott Wright because I just don’t see it happening for him, there’s not a lot of end product.”
Rangers need to bench Scott Wright for their Motherwell game
Rangers have been one of the busiest teams in Europe since the summer transfer window opened up.
The club have brought in the likes of Connor Barron and Brazilian starlet Jefte to help bolster their ranks. In terms of the latter, he can cover both left-back and left-wing.
However, he made his debut for the Gers against Dynamo Kyiv in their Champions League qualifier and was deployed in the more advanced role of left-wing.
After he entered the pitch, Philippe Clement’s team felt a lot more stable and he helped shore up the left-hand side of the Glasgow-based outfits team.
Granted, the fact that Ridvan Yilmaz only managed a 4/10 from Ibrox News’ match ratings tells you all you need to know about the left-back’s performance.
Clement might have his favoured players for each position but the fact of the matter is that Wright once again failed to perform.
If the club want to progress further into the Champions League and perhaps even dethrone Celtic, they need to be playing their strongest talents week in and week out.
