Robin Propper set to make Rangers debut vs Hearts at Tynecastle as unveiling update emerges
Robin Propper could make his Rangers debut in the season opener away to Hearts this weekend, according to Barry Anderson.
The Edinburgh News journalist reported via X on 31 July that the FC Twente captain could feature at Tynecastle just three days later on 3 August “if clearance arrives in time”, with a medical due imminently.
The Daily Record also reported in an update on their website at (31 July, 11.42am) it is “likely” that the Dutchman will be officially unveiled by the Light Blues on 1 August, adding to his chances of a “quick-fire” debut against the Jambos.
Rangers only confirmed Connor Goldson’s exit to Aris Limassol on 30 July but are moving fast to replace the former vice-captain.
Connor Goldson set to be replaced fast at Rangers
If Propper is through the doors, signed, and registered in time to take to Edinburgh with the squad for the opener then the club will deserve credit for getting the deal done so quickly.
Goldson may have been away with his new teammates for a few days [Derek Clark, 26 July] but the time left after the move was announced left a very small window to get a replacement in for the first game.
The club have not showered themselves in glory on logistics this summer, with building work at Ibrox forcing Philippe Clement and the team to decamp to Hampden Park for at least a month.
But there appears to be some serious intent to get the Propper deal done as quickly as possible in order to give the manager another option for the Hearts clash.
It would be little surprise if discussions around a deal for the 30-year-old centre-back began last week when Sam Lammers’ move in the opposite direction was being sealed.
Twente look like they could have come to Clement’s rescue twice in buying the unwanted forward and agreeing a deal that brings an experienced defender to Glasgow.
Everyone involved will have to hope that the haste with which proceedings are being carried out doesn’t mean the matter has been rushed, and that Propper is the right man for the Light Blues.
It turned out Lammers absolutely wasn’t yet he has thrived in the Eredivisie, and with the proposed ninth signing of the summer having spent his whole career in the Netherlands that might put some on edge until they’ve seen him perform.
