Robin Propper given permission to travel for Rangers medical amid personal terms update
Robin Propper has now been given permission to travel to Scotland to complete a move to Rangers, according to Scott Burns.
The Scottish Express journalist reported via X on 31 July that the Dutch defender still has to complete his medical and agree personal terms once he arrives.
But a fee has been agreed with FC Twente to buy the 30-year-old, which comes just a day after Connor Goldson’s sale to Aris Limassol was confirmed.
Propper is now set to become the second of the experienced signings that Philippe Clement has been targeting after Wolfsburg winger Vaclav Cerny arrived on loan.
Philippe Clement responds quickly to Connor Goldson Rangers exit
With the opening game of the Scottish Premiership season away to Hearts just days away on 3 September there would have been diminishing hope of anyone new coming in ready to feature at Tynecastle.
But the speed that Rangers have responded to the exit of Goldson suggests it may be possible for Propper to be in the squad in time.
There are clearly some hurdles still to clear but he wouldn’t be heading to Scotland if this wasn’t already at a serious stage so the chances of the Light Blues sealing their ninth deal of the window look strong.
Assuming it is completed the crucial question will be how well Propper adapts to Clement’s tactics and the league in general.
The previous two centre-back additions have been qualified successes at best, with John Souttar proving more suitable once he got over major injury issues than the more expensive Ben Davies.
Leon Balogun may be 36 already but is probably the top man in the position group as things stand, so Clement will surely be hoping Propper can claim that title once he’s in.
It has been a tough slog for a few weeks in the market as the Light Blues struggled to shift players to make room on the wage bill and generate a budget.
But with Sam Lammers and Goldson gone, and more expected to follow, the reinforcements are starting to arrive.
If a senior centre-back can now be sewn up attention will turn to central midfield and a headline addition at striker.
In other Rangers news, a preseason clash between a pair of Light Blues is a “massive worry” ahead of the new campaign.
