Rangers ready to meet release clause for new Robin Propper transfer after decision

Robbin Propper may have had a release clause in his contract that Rangers were willing to meet, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reported on 31 July via their website that despite signing an extension in January, there could have been an exit clause.

After the sale of Connor Goldson, it looks as though Philippe Clement has moved quickly to reinforce his backline ahead of the new season.

Robin Propper is Rangers replacement for Connor Goldson

Goldson was one of Rangers’ longest-serving players after being brought to the club by Steven Gerrard.

The defender was not only a leader on the pitch but his talent was also second-to-none.

Alongside Leon Balogun, he formed a solid partnership and made the Gers’ defence one of the most formidable in the Scottish Premiership.

The addition of Propper not only fills the leadership gap left by the former Brighton man but also adds a left-footed centre-back to the ranks.

The Netherlands youth international is 30 years old and has spent the entirety of his career in the Eredivisie.

This will be the defender’s first chance to showcase his talent outside of his home country and perhaps even stake a claim for his national team.

Whilst this isn’t guaranteed to happen, should the Gers make their way into the Champions League this term, there will be plenty of games where his talent can be showcased to a wider audience.

It has also been reported that all that stands in the way of the move being made official [ESPN Netherlands, 31 July] is that of his medical.
