Rangers agree deal for Robin Propper as jets into Glasgow Wednesday for immediate medical

Robin Propper is now on his way to Glasgow and his Rangers medical is set to be carried out within the next 24 hours, according to Barry Anderson.

The Edinburgh News journalist reported via X on 31 July that the FC Twente defender is already travelling to Scotland ahead of his proposed Light Blues switch, with tests due to completed by lunch time on Wednesday 1 August.

An update on the Daily Record’s website (31July, 11.42am) says that the 30-year-old is set to touch down in the city the same day.

Rangers have agreed a fee with his Eredivisie employers but personal terms and the medical tests still need to be cleared, according to Scott Burns.

Vaclav Cerny became the eighth signing of the transfer window for Philippe Clement last week but only after a frustrating delay in terms of incoming business.

But the Belgian and compatriot Nils Koppen have reacted quickly after the Czech winger’s confirmed arrival on 26 July, and even quicker to Connor Goldson’s confirmed departure to Aris Limassol on 30 July, to move for the ninth addition.

The vice-captain’s sale feels like it has come at the right time with the manager implementing a complete overhaul at Ibrox – or indeed at Hampden Park for the opening weeks of the season.

The 31-year-old’s exit has freed up substantial space on the wage bill but leaves a centre-back group lead by veteran Leon Balogun that isn’t deep.

Clinton Nsiala, 20, has already been brought in from AC Milan but isn’t expected to contribute from the off as he has never played a competitive senior game in his career.

On the contrary, should Popper now complete a move he will surely be expected to be a factor as soon as possible, and with 115 Twente appearances in the past three seasons he appears to be a durable option that Clement has had far too few of.

There may be an element of risk in that he has spent his entire career in the Netherlands, with De Graafschap and Heracles Almelo previously, so how quickly he can adapt to the Scottish Premiership would be key.

In other Rangers news, an update has emerged after the club was asked what has happened with a new signing that seems to have disappeared.
