Rangers can reignite summer transfer business with three Ibrox exits close

James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Scott Wright leaving Rangers will allow Philippe Clement to kick-start his squad rebuild this summer.

On 23 July, TEAMtalk reported that an agreement between the Light Blues and Trabzonspor for Tavernier is “close”, with the club’s long-term captain having already agreed terms with the Turkish side.

Furthermore, TEAMtalk’s report also added that centre-back Connor Goldson is edging towards a transfer to Cypriot side Aris Limassol and Scott Wright looks bound for a club in the EFL Championship.

Derby, Preston and Sheffield Wednesday are all keen on wideman Wright [Darren Witcoop, 23 July], and if all three aforementioned Gers players leave for significant-enough transfer fees, the need for replacements will be ushered in.

Rangers should push through trio’s exits to fund new transfers

With Goldson, Tavernier and Wright all under contract at Ibrox, moving all three out the door will bring in transfer fees for Philippe Clement to spend on his much-needed squad rebuild this summer.

Goldson and Tavernier are both on the wrong side of 30 and Wright is largely out of favour, the latter duo should make a profit on the minimal amounts they were signed for many moons ago.

The Gers may already have a ready-made replacement for Tavernier in the form of Dujon Sterling – who has impressed in pre-season so far – but Goldson and Wright’s departures will necessitate new arrivals.

Scott Wright looks likely to head south of the border from Rangers this summer

Clement hardly has a plethora of wingers at his disposal and could lose another in the form of Tom Lawrence [Fanatik, 12 June], but the potential fee brought in by Wright will allow the Belgian to strengthen further in attack.

That’s arguably the most pressing area of all for the Light Blues this summer, and with top target Lawrence Shankland set to cost £3million [Daily Record, 23 July], Clement needs the funds to make this dream transfer happen.

In other Rangers news, Andy Newport has told the club that they are in desperate need of new signings up front.
