Ben Davies exit update emerges at Rangers amid Sheffield United takeover developments

Sheffield United are waiting for their takeover to be completed before making contact with Rangers over a transfer for Ben Davies, according to The Fourth Official.

The outlet reported via its YouTube channel on Tuesday (2 July) that the Blades have previously held an interest in the Englishman who is surplus to requirements under Philippe Clement at Ibrox this summer.

While other Championship clubs are understood to be interested in the 28-year-old, Chris Wilder’s United are expected to return later in the summer window to try and prize Davies away from Glasgow.

Speaking on YouTube, The Fourth Official said: “Sheffield United are currently undergoing talks with a brand new owner at this stage which is part of the reason Scotland striker Oli McBurnie has yet to sign a new deal.

“But it is my understanding and what I am hearing from several parties is that once that deal for new ownership comes through for Sheffield United, they will be back in touch with Rangers with regards to trying to seal a deal for Ben Davies.”

Will Ben Davies exit Rangers in Ibrox summer transfer exodus?

Davies already has connections with Bramall Lane as he spent a spell on loan with the Blades following his move to Liverpool from Preston, so this could be a deal that appeals to the centre-back during the summer.

However, the Gers will likely be eager to get the 28-year-old off of their wage bill as soon as possible this summer. Therefore, they may not be willing to wait for United to sort out their off-the-field issues before parting ways with the defender.

If other Championship clubs are keen to secure his services as has been suggested, they could well manage to get the jump on Wilder’s side if they submit a bid while the takeover is still ongoing.

Ultimately, the most important thing from the Gers’ perspective is finding an exit route for the Englishman this summer. He barely featured under Clement last season and with more additions expected this summer, his minutes will only be further reduced.

Hopefully, someone will table a bid that matches the Light Blues’ valuation and this transfer can be sorted quickly before pre-season preparations step up a gear.
