Alexander Smith contract update at Rangers after Premier League transfer news

Alexander Smith has signed a professional contract at Rangers, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Journalist took to X and stated that the youngster has signed a three-year deal with the club.

Romano also added that Smith chose to stay with the Gers rather than make a move to the interested MLS and Premier League clubs.

After what has felt like a lifetime, the Gers have finally managed to secure the future of one of their brightest prospects.

Since their defeat to Celtic in the Scottish Cup final, there has been plenty of change occurring at Ibrox.

Many players have departed the club as a result of their contracts expiring and many have also arrived.

With the transfers and contract extensions that Phillipe Clement has made throughout the summer, it feels as if the Gers are planning for their future.

Rangers’ most recent acquisition, Connor Barron [Heart & Hand Podcast, 20 June] also showcases the club’s thought process as the midfielder is just 21 years old.

Although at just 16 years old, Smith is quite a distance away from making his impact on the first team just yet.

The deal being professional also helps the club secure a better financial package should Smith leave over the next three years.
