Robby McCrorie closer to Rangers exit as transfer update emerges at Ibrox

Robby McCrorie surely has one foot out of the Ibrox door now after the latest transfer update emerging at Rangers.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper has made just a handful of first-team appearances, having been sent out on loan to Berwick Rangers, Greenock Morton, Queen of South and Livingston in that period.

According to the Daily Record [4 June], McCrorie rejected a new contract offer at Ibrox earlier this month, with Aberdeen said to be interested in signing the player.

He may now have moved one step closer to leaving the Gers this summer, with Philippe Clement set to bring in a brand-new ‘keeper ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The goalkeeping department is one of the strongest parts of Clement’s squad right now, though transfer links would suggest that the Gers might have a number of faces in between the sticks next season.

Jack Butland was the most outstanding shot-stopper in Scotland last season, keeping 18 clean sheets in 33 Scottish Premiership performances, but even he has a shadow cast above his Gers future.

While McCrorie is a talented shot-stopper, there have been few opportunities for him to prove that, and with the potential addition of Kelly this summer, an exit now seems inevitable.

Of course, if Butland were to leave the club this summer – even though that seems massively unlikely to happen in truth – it would almost guarantee more time for the 26-year-old under Clement with McCrorie and Kelly both untested at Ibrox.

However, with the goalkeeper about to enter his prime years, he will want to be playing regular first-team football, which all points to the inevitable conclusion he will depart this summer.
