Rangers set for compensation after Ibrox announcement confirmed
Rangers are set to receive “decent-sized compensation” after James Bisgrove’s Ibrox exit was confirmed by the club, according to Dan Plumley.
The Gers CEO has moved to Saudi Arabia to take on a role in SPL after receiving an offer that was “too good to refuse”, and Rangers will not look to replace him immediately with their attentions firmly on the transfer window.
When asked if the club are likely to receive compensation and how that could affect their budgets, football finance expert Plumley admitted it’s likely to be something they have planned for and expects more clubs to do so in the future.
“Absolutely, I think it’s now something that clubs are budgeting for and will have to do so in the future as we said,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“Those kinds of roles, the chief exec roles, the commercial roles, the sporting director roles, and those people that can either get into your recruitment space and deliver high-quality talent or deliver commercial opportunities for the business, or do a bit of both, and we’ve seen that role evolve a lot over the years, and will continue to do so.
“These people have high net worth to the clubs that they’re employed by. And if they are going to be moved around or if there are going to be other clubs looking around at your chief exec or technical director or sporting director, then this is always likely to happen and we’ll see more of this in the future – decent sized compensation fees for those roles to move on.
“I think that’s the way the game is heading for sure.”
Rangers must focus on catching Celtic on the pitch
Bisgrove was clearly very good at what he does, but the added responsibility of recruitment at the club didn’t help him settle and fans will likely remember that more than his positive things.
But at the same time, the club have bigger fish to fry on the pitch as they are desperate to catch Celtic and stop their dominance of the domestic game, meaning they have to get things right.
Transfers are the priority this summer, and with Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen taking a more hands-on approach there should be no excuses.

Compensation for Bisgrove will likely go towards transfers, wages and then potentially a replacement once the season begins but the club will run just fine in the meantime.
Bisgrove will be missed but he is by no means irreplaceable at Ibrox, Rangers must ensure the right appointment is made when the time comes so they don’t have to return to it later down the line.
