Rangers set to keep exit-linked Ibrox figure on Philippe Clement’s staff next season
Rangers are expected to keep Alex Rae on as part of Philippe Clement’s backroom staff next season, according to Chris Jack.
The Rangers Review journalist reported on the outlet’s website on 17 June that he understands the Gers first team coach isn’t going to be moved on as his knowledge of Scottish football and the Light Blues is still seen as beneficial.
Rae’s contract was reported to be expiring this summer and changes to the backroom team were tipped by the Daily Record on 20 May.
The former Ibrox midfielder had been part of the interim management team led by Steven Davis after Michael Beale was sacked last season, and we kept on after the appointment of Clement.
Alex Rae to remain at Rangers
It is another summer of major change at Ibrox with the manager and Nils Koppen overhauling the squad after throwing away a chance to win the Scottish Premiership last season.
The Belgian needs to get it right as Michael Beale barely lasted into the new campaign when his own revamp a year ago failed to have the desired effect.
And the extensive churn at the top of the club has continued with former CEO James Bisgrove’s sudden exit to Saudi Arabia taking the Rangers hierarchy by surprise [Scottish Sun, 30 May].
However, it appears a Rae exit isn’t expected along with the likes of Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe as their deals expire, so an extension must be on the cards or already agreed.

John Lundstram and Borna Barisic are two more first team regulars who have departed, with both expected to reunite in Turkey with Trabzonspor.
A number of new signings have already been made with plenty more still expected, so if Rae is still in place when the next campaign kicks off the playing staff he is coaching will look quite different.
In other Rangers news, the club already have a “huge profit” in mind after landing another new signing this summer.
