Surprise Liam Kelly news emerges ahead of Rangers transfer at Ibrox
Gary Keown has revealed his delight to see Liam Kelly feature in the Scotland European Championship squad ahead of a potential summer move to Rangers.
The Scotsman reported (4 June) that the Gers had moved closer to signing the goalkeeper with a free transfer “very likely”.
Steve Clarke has now called up Kelly to the Scotland squad for the EUROs alongside Angus Gunn and Craig Gordon.
Writing in his column for the Scottish Mail on Sunday (9 June, page 101), Keown shared his joy in seeing the keeper called up and mentioned the Light Blues.
He said: “The inclusion of Kelly, hotly tipped for a summer return to Rangers, is a surprise, but it says much for the way Clarke runs his squad.
“It is nice to see that being a good guy and good team-mate can still bring its rewards.”
Liam Kelly move to Rangers mooted
Phillipe Clement is in a sticky spot at Ibrox right now as he looks to rebuild his squad as he looks to compete better next season.
After adding Jefte to their squad already, Kelly could become the second addition even before the summer transfer window has opened.
The goalkeeper had a positive season with Motherwell as they avoided relegation with ease after the Scottish Premiership table split.
On a potential free transfer, this could prove to be a positive piece of business as a useful back up to Jack Butland for the next campaign.

The Englishman had a superb season of his own and will certainly be the number one at Ibrox but some competition can not hurt.
A move may now be delayed by the EUROs as Kelly embarks on the tournament although he is likely to be the third choice for Clarke.
Keown clearly rates Kelly as a player and a person showing just what sort of players Rangers look set to sign.
In other Rangers news, a Premier League midfielder with “great quality” is now up for grabs this summer amid a recent development with a move to Ibrox on the cards.
