Robby McCrorie told to complete summer transfer ‘for his own sake’ after Rangers contract update

David Edgar has told Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie that he needs to leave Ibrox during the summer transfer window “for his own sake”.

The 26-year-old reportedly submitted a transfer request to leave Glasgow earlier this season and while no move came to fruition in January, the Scottish stopper will not withdraw that request this summer [Rangers Review, 4 June].

Rangers have tried to convince McCrorie to pen new terms to extend his stay in Glasgow, but co-host of the Heart and Hand Podcast, Egdar, has admitted that a move away this summer would be the right call for the keeper.

Writing on X on Tuesday (4 June) he said: “For his own sake, he needs to be playing somewhere.

“He’s 26 and while keepers can play on longer, he should be a number one at a club.”

Will Rangers and Philippe Clement sell Robby McCrorie during the summer transfer window at Ibrox?

As Edgar suggests, 26 may not be any age for a goalkeeper but most stoppers have begun to play consistent first-team football by that stage of their career. McCrorie simply cannot afford to just stand still at Ibrox.

While there is a chance he could be handed the number one shirt should Jack Butland depart this summer, it feels more than likely Clement would instead opt to bring in a new first-choice keeper to replace the Englishman.

With only a year left on his deal in Glasgow, the Gers won’t be in a position to reject any big offers that arrive for the 26-year-old this summer. If McCrorie is serious about wanting to leave the Gers, this should be a straightforward transfer to complete.

Hopefully, the Light Blues won’t stand in the keeper’s way if he does want to play regular football elsewhere because ultimately it doesn’t help anyone having the Scotsman sitting on the bench for 40-odd games a season.
