Rangers Women make Olivia McLoughlin contract announcement as Aston Villa exit confirmed
Rangers Women have confirmed the permanent signing of Aston Villa midfielder Olivia McLoughlin as their second addition of the summer.
The Light Blues announced in an official statement on Tuesday (4 June) that the 19-year-old would return to Glasgow following the expiry of her contract at Villa Park, having spent the second half of the season on loan.
McLoughlin has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Jo Potter’s side and has admitted it was an easy decision after helping the Gers secure both the Sky Sports and Scottish Cup titles whilst on loan.
As quoted by the Gers’ official website (4 June) she said: “Coming on loan here and enjoying it so much and playing and being a big part of the team, that has really helped my decision to stay.
“The factors of being so far away from home was playing on my mind, but when you are surrounded by good people in the team it makes it easier.
“I think winning silverware is massive for me and the team, hopefully, we can go on to win more next season.”
Rangers Women look to close the gap to Celtic with Olivia McLoughlin transfer
The season may have only just ended a matter of days ago, but Rangers are wasting no time putting the wheels in motion to try and close the gap to Celtic at the top of the Women’s Premier League table next year.
Potter’s side have already confirmed the signing of Scottish international Leah Eddie from Hibernian whilst also ensuring a number of their biggest names have been handed new deals. It is clear that the Gers are planning a big summer.
Ultimately, the gap to Celtic at the top of the table was so small last season that Rangers will hope it will only take a couple of quality additions to ensure that they can get their hands on the league title next term.
McLoughlin has impressed against the Hoops in Old Firm matches already and even managed to get on the scoresheet in the Sky Sports Cup final. If she can continue to perform in the biggest games, she could be the difference between a first and second-placed finish.
