Allan McGregor makes Rangers return admission in new retirement claim
Allan McGregor has not ruled out one day returning to Rangers in a coaching capacity.
Club great McGregor discussed his time at Ibrox with ‘Tubes’ and Jimmy Bullard on the Golf Life Podcast [4 June].
The 42-year-old Gers legend left the club last year and has not played since despite not yet officially announcing his retirement, and has left the door open regarding a potential future return.
“I feel like I want to want to do it rather than people say ‘you’ve got the experience, you should do it’,” McGregor told the duo on the golf course when asked about a coaching job at Ibrox.
“That time might come soon but I am just enjoying myself. I’ve pretty much [retired], aye.
“I have not played for 11 months now. I don’t think there is a need to [come out and say it]. I keep myself to myself and just get on with it.”
Allan McGregor back at Rangers would be a huge fan boost
It would send a wave of positivity through Ibrox if, whenever it may occur, McGregor ever returned to Rangers in a coaching role to some degree.
The stalwart of over 500 Gers games played a professional career of 22 years, which explains why he’s enjoying taking a backward step and experiencing retirement, albeit ‘unofficially’.
McGregor, who has offered pundit advice to the club’s current goalkeepers, is open to coaching and management but is in no rush – one look at the pressure Philippe Clement is under in the coming weeks and months would drive many away.

The stopper won four league titles among 15 major domestic trophies as a Light Blue, and has witnessed both the success and the heartbreak.
He has lived and breathed the club, the Old Firm and the perspective of the Rangers support, which is as strong an attribute at one of the Scottish giants as any coaching qualification can boast.
Maybe one day, Ibrox can welcome back a famous 21st century son.
In other Rangers news, the club could be at risk of being used for an improved Premier League contract by a defensive transfer target.
