Rangers want to seal Reuell Walters transfer after Arsenal exit news emerges

Rangers want to sign former Arsenal defender Reuell Walters this summer as part of their squad rebuild, according to The Scotsman.

Writing on their website (3 June), the news outlet report that the 19-year-old speedster has been identified as a target at Ibrox after rejecting a new contract at The Emirates with his contract expiring this summer.

Able to play at centre-back or at right-back, Walters was highly-rated by the Gunners but wants more regular first-team football after a loan to Sheffield United failed to materialise in January and Rangers want to bring him in.

The summer transfer window is going to be a very busy one at Ibrox, with several first-team players already confirmed to leave at the end of their contracts and two new arrivals brought.

Jefte has joined at left-back while the club have confirmed the return of Oscar Cortes on a season-long loan deal with an obligation to make the deal permanent in 2025.

But defence is an area that Clement is determined to strengthen with Borna Barisic leaving and question marks over the future of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Ben Davies.

Walters is in the type of market that Rangers should be targeting with highly talented players who need an opportunity to flourish and show their quality, similar to how they discovered players like Calvin Bassey.

On a free transfer and with no senior appearances he won’t be expecting a big wage and will be hungry to make an impression, so this could be shrewd business.

In other Rangers news, a club “want nothing more” than to sign this Ibrox star this summer.
