Jose Cordoba transfer details emerge as Rangers miss out on deal to Norwich City

Rangers have missed out on a deal to sign Jose Cordoba after Norwich agreed to pay him £7k per week, according to Tema Sport.

Writing on their website (1 June), the Bulgarian news outlet report that the player has agreed a long-term contract to move to Carrow Road despite a move to Ibrox looking nailed on earlier in the summer.

But the reason for a deal not happening was not only due to the personal terms but also because Rangers wanted to pay the £3.2million fee mostly with performance related bonuses, which Levski Sofia weren’t keen on.

Rangers look to move on quickly in transfer window

After completing a transfer for Jefte quickly and then announcing the return of Oscar Cortes until 2029, it’s clear that Philippe Clement has an image in mind of what he wants the squad to look like.

Leon Balogun has put pen to paper on a new contract but Ben Davies is likely to leave, which means there is still an opening in central defence for the squad to be strengthened.

Plenty of options have been mooted, including ex-Arsenal youngster Reuell Walters most recently, so it’s clear that the club are moving quickly to bring in the players the manager wants.

Cordoba is a very impressive player so it was obvious why Rangers were interested, but the finances at the club aren’t what they once were and decisions have to be made.

Rather than dithering on a deal the club have opted to move on from the target and pursue other options, and they should be commended for making that call quickly instead of letting it pass without pursuing other avenues.

In other Rangers news, a club “want nothing more” than to sign this Ibrox star this summer.
