Philippe Clement will be ready to sell Kieran Dowell at Rangers in Ibrox revamp
Kenny Miller has given the verdict that Rangers should part ways with Kieran Dowell this summer following a lack of impact.
Ex-Gers man Miller took to his Daily Record column [2 June] to deliver his appraisal of a squad which fell short of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership for a third successive year, and could only muster silver medals in the Scottish Cup final to their bitter rivals.
Dowell only started five league games in 2023-24 and has been linked with a return to England, with Miller describing the midfielder as having only shown “flashes” of his ability at Ibrox.
“It’s crazy to think that Rangers basically only have three proper central midfielders going into next season – Mohamed Diomande, Nico Raskin and Kieran Dowell,” said the former striker.
“The first two will be key players moving forward but Dowell has made no impact since signing from Norwich. He has only shown flashes of what he’s capable of – and flashes aren’t good enough at Rangers, you need consistency.
“Clement would be open to offers for him but it’s not always easy to get players out.”
Dowell among many who Rangers could cull
Having played across three spells at Ibrox, there aren’t too many around who know the standards of what it takes to be a Rangers player to the extent Miller does, and he’s often vocal when players don’t meet the criteria – whether that be consistency on the grass, or professionalism and pride off it.
For Dowell, the move north hasn’t really worked out and he’s struggled to stamp down a marker. At 26, the former England U21 midfielder is likely to be seeking a way out to rekindle his career and get consistent playing time.
Clement clearly prefers Diomande and Raskin, and will be bringing in reinforcements in the centre of the park – and all over the pitch, for that matter.

Dowell is mooted to follow other midfielders John Lundstram and Ryan Jack through the exit door, with the Rangers boss fully immersed in squad overhaul mode – it’s the only way the Light Blues hold any hope of knocking Celtic from their perch.
