Philippe Clement can secure Rangers transfer for Thomas Galdames now after new development
Rangers manager Philippe Clement is keen to make a number of changes to his squad this summer and the Belgian hasn’t wasted any time in the transfer market.
The Light Blues have already confirmed the departures of several key names, with the likes of Ryan Jack and John Lundstram leaving Glasgow, while Jefte has already penned a contract to join the ranks at Ibrox.
But this is only the start and Clement is expected to make several more alterations before a ball is kicked in pre-season and one man who has been tipped to make the move to Scotland is Thomas Galdames.
The Light Blues are reportedly one of several clubs in talks with Godoy Cruz over a potential summer switch as he enters the final months of his contract [Nahuel Ferreira, 31 May] and Galdames has hinted he would be keen on a move to Europe.
As quoted by Cooperativa Deportes (1 June) he said: “I have a contract in Godoy Cruz until December and their idea and mine is that they sell me now.
“My agent is working on that, they are not issues that concern me and I can only focus on the games. I know that going to Europe and playing in a competitive league I would improve more than I would in South America.
“My career has been very progressive, particularly recently. Getting called up for the national team is proof of that. I hope something happens in June or July.”
Will Philippe Clement and Rangers sign Thomas Galdames in the summer transfer window?
It is clear from the left-back’s admission that both he and Godoy Cruz are desperate to see him leave the club this summer. While he didn’t mention the Gers by name, he may well have opened the door for Clement to get his man.
A move to Ibrox will offer the defender a chance to play European football and impress in a more competitive league and while the Gers have already signed Jefte, they could do with some more options in defence.

Ridvan Yilmaz will almost certainly be the subject of speculation again this summer and Borna Barisic’s departure has already been confirmed. The Chilean star could quite easily step in to replace the outgoing Croatian.
Whether or not the Gers act on their interest remains to be seen, but it is clear from Galdames’ latest comments that he wants to move away from Godoy Cruz as soon as possible.
