Thomas Galdames quizzed on Rangers transfer after Godoy Cruz update

Thomas Galdames could have played his last game for Godoy Cruz ahead of a possible move to Rangers, according to Cooperativa.

The report on 31 May reveals that Galdames is expected to leave Argentina for Europe amid interest from Rangers and a club in Belgium.

Galdames hinted at a possible departure but was cautious with his response when asked about the subject.

Speaking to TyC Sports (31 May), he said: “I don’t know what’s going to happen with my future, I hope it’s something good for my career, for my future, that’s what I work for every day.

“I prefer not to say anything, not to be told anything until it is something concrete, because there is always a lot of speculation and one gets excited.”

Would Thomas Galdames be a good signing for Rangers?

If Galdames has indeed played his last game for Argentinian side Godoy Cruz, then he has certainly bowed out on a high note.

The 25-year-old laid on two assists in the 4-0 Copa Argentina round of 32 win over El Porvenir – a feisty affair in which both teams saw a man sent off. Both Galdames’ assists came after the two sides had been reduced to 10 men, creating the third and fourth goals that killed the contest late on.

In addition to his two assists, Galdames took 58 touches and played five passes into the final third as well as winning all three of his tackles, both of his aerial duels and five out of seven of his ground duels [FotMob].

Galdames’ potential arrival does raise question marks over the future of Ridvan Yilmaz, however.

Following the acquisition of Brazilian left-back Jefte, the purchase of another player in the same position would leave the Gers overstocked on left-sided full-backs.

Barring a change of position for one of the trio, it could signal a departure for the Turkish defender – meaning Rangers would start the new campaign with a completely new pair of left-backs.
