Rangers make Oscar Cortes decision as multi-million transfer stance emerges – Chris Jack

Rangers want to sign winger Oscar Cortes permanently this summer with Lens demanding £4million in a deal, according to Chris Jack.

Writing on the Rangers Review website (1 June), the journalist reports that Philippe Clement wants to bring the Colombian winger to the club on a full-time basis after his loan spell was ended prematurely due to injury in 2023/24.

Lens are open to a deal but would demand the £4million they spent on signing the 20-year-old from Millonarios 12 months ago.

Rangers make permanent transfer move for Oscar Cortes

A lot of the conversation regarding the future of Cortes at Ibrox next season was talking about renewing the loan deal that saw him join the club initially.

But it now seems like a permanent transfer could be more likely, as Rangers want to strengthen their squad for Clement in order to close the gap on Celtic.

A loan deal would allow that to happen, but it would only be temporary and would leave the player’s futures out of their hands should he shine and a permanent deal seems to make more sense.

However a £4million fee isn’t chump change by any stretch of the imagination and if the club are going to spend that amount of money on an individual then they have to be certain he will make the squad better.

Cortes has all the attributes that Clement likes in a winger, and with a bit of negotiation this is a deal that could certainly take place considering the player’s comments [Pipe Sierra, 22 May] recently.

In other Rangers news, a senior figure at Ibrox is still working for the club despite his exit being confirmed.
