Four Lads react as Rangers confirm several first-team exits at Ibrox

Four Lads believe Rangers have made the right decision by releasing five players at the end of their contract, after the club confirmed their exits.

John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Borna Barisic, Kemar Roofe and Jon McLaughlin have all left the club after their contracts expired and new deals weren’t agreed.

Jack, Roofe and McLaughlin were never expected to be handed new deals, but Lundstram and Barisic are set to move to Trabzonspor in Turkey despite Philippe Clement initially wanting them to stay (Sky Sports, 3 May) but writing on their personal X account (1 June), Four Lads believe it’s the right thing for them to move on.

“All the best to the players leaving,” they wrote.

“It’s required for the squad and the club to freshen going forward. Entirely the right decision for each.”

Rangers going in the right direction

It’s the right decision by the club to move on, and even though Clement was clearly desperate to keep hold of Lundstram in particular he’ll appreciate it too in the future.

Barisic initially was wanted to stay but he lost his spot as the first-choice left-back to Ridvan Yilmaz and as he gets older it just made more sense to let him move on.

Jack and Roofe both have their uses in a squad role, but with the injury problems both have dealt with over the years they’re not able to be relied upon and moving them on made the most sense for everyone too.

McLaughlin on the other hand was the third-choice goalkeeper and wants more game time, so needed to move for it to make sense too.

Ultimately these decisions will only come back to bite Rangers if they aren’t replaced. But the board and manager have promised a rebuild, so it can only be a good thing to see them move on.

In other Rangers news, another Ibrox ace is “likely” to leave the club this summer with Clement eyeing replcements.
