Four Lads react as Rangers announce Leon Balogun contract extension at Ibrox
Four Lads Had A Dream have reacted after Rangers confirmed Leon Balogun has signed a one-year contract extension at Ibrox.
The 35-year-old defender has put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him through until the end of the 2024/25 campaign, having made 19 appearances in all competitions this season.
The Gers are set for a summer of change, with a major rebuild already mooted at Ibrox, though the club have done some early business by tying Balogun down to an extra year in Scotland.
Taking to X on Saturday (1 June), Four Lads reacted to the news, writing: “Nicest guy, great to deal with, brilliant with us as fan media, and more importantly, more than capable of being a good, solid player for us.”
Leon Balogun signs one-year extension at Rangers
The news coming out of Ibrox has largely been greeted with content, though some will be wary of the player’s age heading into the 2024/25 campaign, seeing as he will be 36 years old when the season starts.
Balogun had limited game time this season but was a solid player when called upon in the final few weeks of the season before he sustained an injury, anyway.
Some fans will not be able to enjoy the extension as much after the Gers pulled out of a deal for Levski Sofia’s Jose Cordoba earlier this week, a player with a lot of talent and potential.
If the 35-year-old is only extending his stay with the Gers as a potential back-up option next season, it will not be an awful decision. However, there are certainly other transfer choices that could have used the money in a better way.
Balogun’s extension will just be the first change of many this summer as Philippe Clement takes control of his first summer transfer window at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, an Ibrox-linked defender may fail his medical as transfer news has emerged from the club this past week.
