Billy Gilmour reacts to Ryan Jack exit confirmation at Rangers on Saturday

Billy Gilmour has reacted on social media to official confirmation that Ryan Jack is leaving Rangers this summer.

Jack’s contract with the Gers expired at the end of May and he was not offered an extension, leading to his departure.

And former Rangers midfielder Gilmour responded to the club’s official post confirming Jack’s exit.

He commented on the club’s Instagram post (1 June) with two clapping emojis and a blue heart.

Should Rangers have kept Ryan Jack?

Jack was a long-serving member of the Rangers squad, having made 210 appearances in all competitions since joining from Aberdeen in the summer of 2017, scoring 16 goals and registering 15 assists.

However, his 2023/24 campaign was significantly impacted by injury, with the 32-year-old playing just 446 Scottish Premiership minutes across 11 appearances.

Given the midfielder’s age and injury record, declining to offer Jack a new deal seems to be a logical move.

Head coach Philippe Clement is expected to oversee an overhaul of the squad, with Jack one of several first-team stars out of contract this summer.

The Belgian guided Rangers to a Scottish League Cup title last term but fell short in both the league and Scottish Cup, with bitter rivals Celtic pipping them to both other domestic trophies.

Clement is hoping to rejuvenate the squad with young talent and clever scouting, with Brazilian left-back Jefte already through the door at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, Thomas Galdames has been quizzed on a possible transfer to Ibrox.
