Robby McCrorie exit update emerges at Rangers amid Liam Kelly transfer development

Chris Jack has admitted he will “be amazed” if Robby McCrorie doesn’t leave Rangers this summer as the Light Blues eye a move for Liam Kelly.

The 26-year-old stopper has found himself stuck behind Jack Butland in the pecking order at Ibrox this season, making only one single appearance throughout the year which came in the Scottish Cup.

Reports suggest that Gers are closing on a deal to sign Aberdeen stopper Kelly on a free transfer [Daily Record, 27 May] and Rangers Review journalist Jack believes that will force McCrorie into departing Glasgow.

Speaking on The Rangers Review YouTube channel (31 May, 22:40) he said: “It’s an area of the squad where there will be movement. Liam Kelly as far as we’re aware, he will make the move.

“Rangers are certainly keen to try and get that over the line. He will be the replacement for Robbie McCrorie, I would be amazed if Robby doesn’t move on this summer.

“I think the only way he doesn’t leave is if Jack Butland heads out early on in the window and the manager then says, you’re our number one. I don’t think Robbie will go into another season of taking his chances or fighting it out with someone.

“At his age, he has to be playing football.”

Will Rangers sell Robbie McCrorie during the summer transfer window at Ibrox?

If he remains at Ibrox next season, it is clear that Butland will be Clement’s number one. Barring his costly mistake in the Scottish Cup final defeat to Celtic, the former Manchester United man has barely put a foot wrong in a Gers shirt.

With Kelly’s arrival appearing to be imminent, it can be assumed he will quite quickly take up McCrorie’s position on the substitutes bench and at 26, he will have no desire to be a third-choice keeper who never even makes the matchday squad.

Aberdeen have already been linked with a move for the Light Blues keeper this summer [Daily Record, 24 May]. You have to imagine that a move away from Glasgow could help McCrorie force his way into Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad.

He doesn’t have to look too far away from home to realise a move away would be the ideal thing for him, his brother Ross has gone from strength to strength since leaving Ibrox and is now a regular starter in the Championship.
