Rangers left stunned by sudden James Bisgrove exit from Ibrox ahead of transfer window

Rangers bosses have been left “stunned” by James Bisgrove’s sudden exit for a job in Saudi Arabia, according to the Scottish Sun.

The paper reported via their website on 30 May that the Ibrox CEO’s departure for newly-promoted Al Qadsiah has taken the hierarchy in Glasgow by surprise as he leaves his post just over a year after moving into the rule, having previously been commercial head at the club.

As a result chairman John Bennett will now become executive chairman on an interim basis in a bid to maintain continuity over the summer.

Bisgrove’s departure doesn’t need to derail the operation at Ibrox but if those he leaves behind have been caught unawares it hardly seems conducive to a key summer.

And with Philippe Clement undertaking a transfer overhaul of the squad a year after Michael Beale was tasked with doing the same it feels like an unwelcome rerun of what proved to be a botched transfer window for there to be yet more upheaval at the top of the club.

Stewart Robertson exited as CEO a year ago amid a great deal of change in key positions behind the scenes, and a period of stability would surely have been preferred, even if Bisgrove was perhaps not best suited to the job in the first place.

After Beale insisted he could take on all responsibilities last summer and appeared to ultimately end up with too much power as he remodelled the playing staff in such a way that it got him sacked by October the remaining hierarchy will need to ensure that better decisions are made this time around.

On balance Clement and Nils Koppen might be trusted more than the former manager to bring in the correct reinforcements, but the late-season collapse in form has put the Belgian under pressure already.

With the money on offer in Saudi Arabia most clubs are at risk of losing players or staff and all companies need to be ready to adapt to personnel turnover but, as with the cycle of coming up short against Celtic on the pitch and managers coming and going, it is more of an unwanted pattern at Rangers for the leadership to constantly be changing.
