West Ham defender Ben Johnson medical claim emerges amid Rangers transfer interest

West Ham defender Ben Johnson may have issues clearing his Rangers medical if the groin injury issues persist, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that the Ibrox outfit will be conducting thorough examinations in order to ensure that there are no long-term consequences.

The English defender turned down a four-year contract at the London Stadium and Gers are now looking to sign him on a free transfer. [The Athletic]

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

The key question with the groin injury which saw him missing a number of games will be is it something that’s recurring and/or a long-term issue.

If that’s the case, then there may be some concern over his physical, which is a possibility, as things stand.

If not, then the club will have to use context to understand it can be difficult to get out of injury cycles during the season.

“Thus, if they’re serious about signing him, they will be undergoing thorough checks over his medical history.

Ben Johnson would be a good signing for Rangers

Should the medics give the green signal, Johnson would actually be a coup for Philippe Clement’s side this summer.

James Tavernier’s defensive woes have made him a liability defensively and having someone like Johnson will undoubtedly be healthy for the team.

The Hammers defender is also capable of playing as a centre-back and left-back – thus offering much-needed versatility and depth to Clement.
