Rangers want six-figure compensation after Saudi Arabia exit news at Ibrox

Rangers are seeking a compensation fee after the club confirmed James Bisgrove would be stepping down from his role as CEO at Ibrox, according to Chris Jack.

The journalist reported via Rangers Review [30 May] that the Gers want a six-figure compensation fee after the chief executive accepted a new football role in Saudi Arabia.

The update has come as a shock to most fans, with John Bennett, Philippe Clement, Nils Koppen and the Football Board taking control of the summer transfer activity at Ibrox.

Rangers want compensation as James Bisgrove quits Ibrox

With Bisgrove leaving his post just before the summer transfer window opens, the Rangers hierarchy have every right to feel like they have been left high and dry by the situation.

Of course, the CEO can be praised for his contribution in bringing Clement to the club last October, a manager who has breathed life and hope into Ibrox, and also his further contributions after five years in Scotland.

However, with a major rebuild already mooted for the Belgian’s squad, Bisgrove’s surprise exit is just one more problem for the club to solve this summer. The temporary jobs, with Bennett overseeing the transfer window, will only be a short-term fix.

Despite this, any compensation package could be important in the summer transfer market for the Gers, especially if they are to make a number of pricey additions.

A handful of current players have already been linked with exits, including the likes of James Tavernier, John Lundstram, Connor Goldson and Jack Butland, all of whom have been vital this season.

If the club are to replace stars like these, they will need the necessary funding to do so, which could be provided by a compensation fee from the Middle East.

While many will thank Bisgrove for his achievements at Ibrox, some will now only remember his sudden exit.

In other Rangers news, a fresh claim has emerged on Gers’ quest to secure the services of an England-born winger who enjoyed a phenomenal 2023/24 season.
