Rangers to drive bidding war for Sam Lammers as new Utrecht transfer update emerges

Utrecht could be set to be priced out of a summer move for Rangers midfielder Sam Lammers this summer, according to Joshua Barrie.

The Dutchman impressed on loan with the Eredivisie club in the second half of the season, but the Light Blues have reportedly decided to sell him when the transfer window opens as they look to turn a profit on their investment.

Although Utrecht are understood to be keen on securing the 27-year-old’s services permanently this summer, Rangers Review journalist Barrie suggests other Dutch clubs could beat them to his signature.

Speaking on The Rangers Review YouTube channel (30 May, 9:00) he said: “What you would say is it would be very good for Rangers if they can try and drive up a bit of a bidding war.

“Utrecht are very keen to keep him, but it looks like they might be priced out by another club in their country because of the form that Lammers has shown in the last six months.”

Will Rangers sell Sam Lammers in the summer transfer window at Ibrox?

While there have been pleas from pundits and supporters alike for Philippe Clement to hand Lammers another chance at Ibrox, it has always felt inevitable that the Gers would move the Dutchman on this summer.

Admittedly, at the start of the campaign, most fans thought the Light Blues would be set to take a huge loss on the 27-year-old following his miserable start to the season, but now they could even pocket a reasonable fee.

Ultimately, it matters very little to Rangers where Lammers ends up this summer. The important thing for the Gers is that they manage to get the biggest fee possible for his services so that they can reinvest in Clement’s side this summer.

The Belgian wants to make a number of changes to his playing squad during the summer window, but he will need money to get new signings over the line. A big money move for Lammers could be enough to fund one or two incomings.

Hopefully, somebody will match the Gers’ valuation sooner rather than later.
