Rangers left-back now poised to sign new Ibrox contract as update emerges – Chris Jack

Robbie Fraser is poised to extend his stay with Rangers, according to Chris Jack.

Writing via the Rangers Review (29 May), Jack revealed that the left-back, who is out of contract this summer, is in talks over a new two-year deal with the Gers.

This would offer Fraser a crack at Philippe Clement’s first-team next season.

The 21-year-old recently made his debut for Rangers in a 5-2 win over Dundee United at Ibrox (14 May).

Robbie Fraser will be determined to make an impact with Rangers

Very few players in the dressing room will know more about what it means to be a Rangers player than Fraser.

The defender came through the club’s academy after joining the Gers at the age of seven.

He will therefore be more determined than most to make an impact under Clement next season.

Handing him a new two-year contract would be a low-risk, high-reward move.

It is always important to have academy players around, and supporters love nothing more than seeing one of their own burst onto the scene.

Rangers have already announced the signing of Jefte.

But with Borna Barisic set to leave, and Ridvan Yilmaz also linked with a move away, opportunities could arise for Fraser.

Clement handed Fraser minutes during the run-in, demonstarting the faith the manager has in the young defender.

As a result, there is no reason for Fraser not to extend his stay at Ibrox, and it looks as if supporters will have a young player to keep an eye on next season.

In other Rangers news, Jack Butland has been told to extend his stay with the club after a shock official announcement.
