Jose Cordoba one step away from Rangers transfer in ‘Excellent’ update

Jose Cordoba is reportedly just “one step away” from sealing a transfer to Rangers this summer.

The Gers appear to be making an early start on their summer transfer business, with Brazilian full-back Jefte already through the door.

And Cordoba looks set to join him following an update from journalist Jose Miguel Dominguez.

He posted on his X account (28 May): “Jose Cordoba, one step away from Glasgow Rangers Football Club. Excellent.”

How good a signing will Jose Cordoba be for Rangers?

Cordoba has certainly made a strong impression in his time in Bulgaria.

He arrived in the country on loan at Etar from Panamanian side Independiente in January 2021 before sealing another temporary transfer to Levski Sofia later that year which was made permanent in July 2022.

At the age of 22, he has already racked up 120 senior appearances across those three clubs – 90 of which have come at Levski Sofia during his time there.

His work for the Bulgarian outfit has clearly caught the eye of Rangers’ recruitment team as they look to unearth gems from lesser-scouted leagues.

Nils Koppen has previously admitted that he wants to bring lesser-known talents to Ibrox that can be sold for big money further down the line – Mohamed Diomande is a prime example of that strategy leading to the acquisition of a quality player.

If they can get the signing of Cordoba over the line, it could prove a shrewd deal indeed.

In other news, Keith Jackson has mooted a “serious issue” inside the Gers dressing room.
