David Edgar ‘annoyed’ as new Jose Cordoba transfer development emerges at Rangers

David Edgar has shared his immediate reaction after Rangers pulled the plug on their summer transfer push for Jose Cordoba.

Reports emerged that the Light Blues had ended their interest in the Levksi Sofia defender with Philippe Clement now expected to his attention to alternative targets and Leon Balogun set to pen a new deal extension [Chris Jack, 29 May].

The Light Blues had been expected to complete a £2million deal for the 22-year-old and while Edgar admits that he didn’t know too much about Cordoba, he has still been left “annoyed” by the latest update.

Writing on X on Wednesday (29 May) he said: “Hadn’t heard of him till two weeks ago but now I’m annoyed.

“The transfer window in a nutshell.”

Has Rangers transfer push for Jose Cordoba ended?

It is amazing how quickly you can get caught up in the fun of the transfer window, but no sooner had the Gers seemingly registered an interest in Cordoba, than the deal had already collapsed.

That certainly won’t be the last time this happens between now and the start of next season and while fans have every right to get excited by new links, not every player tipped to make the switch to Ibrox will be a new Gers player.

New defenders have to be a priority at Ibrox between now and the end of the summer. The backline has been far too easy to break down under Clement and with speculation continuing around Connor Goldson’s future, signings have to be made.

Cordoba would have certainly been an excellent addition given his profile as a naturally left-sided centre-half, but the Light Blues cannot afford to waste money on players who view a move to Scotland as a stepping stone to the Premier League.

Hopefully, Clement will have more luck with his other centre-back targets in the coming weeks and months and Edgar can begin to enjoy the fun of the transfer window once again.
