Rangers transfer news as Kieran Dowell Ibrox exit ‘on the cards’ as summer switch mooted
A return to England is “on the cards” for Rangers midfielder Kieran Dowell during the summer transfer window, according to Chris Jack.
The 26-year-old has had a tough first season in Glasgow having been signed by Michael Beale last summer, making just 16 appearances for the Light Blues, scoring twice as he struggled with a number of fitness issues.
When fit and available, the Englishman has shown flashes of his quality but Rangers Review journalist Jack believes that Dowell could well depart Ibrox and head south of the border this summer.
Writing for the Rangers Review (28 May) he said: “Limited to just 16 appearances as injuries curtailed his campaign. Another Beale buy that didn’t work out.
“A return to England looks on the cards and would be the best course of action all around.”
Will Rangers and Philippe Clement sell Kieran Dowell in the summer transfer window at Ibrox?
It has been an incredibly frustrating season for everyone involved at Rangers, but few players have had more difficult campaigns that Dowell who has suffered setback after setback during his debut term in Glasgow.
His signing last summer raised a few supporters’ eyebrows as they were surprised to see Beale sign another attacking midfielder when Todd Cantwell was seemingly the manager’s go-to guy in the number 10 position.

It was potentially a gamble worth taking and while it hasn’t worked out for either party, Clement is unlikely to take many risks heading into next season. He wants to put his stamp on the playing squad and that will mean a number of stars will be sold.
Hopefully, the Gers will be able to earn some sort of fee if they allow Dowell to leave this summer, however, it would be a surprise if English teams were queuing up to secure his signature after his first season at Ibrox.
