Rangers transfer news as Jarne Steuckers update shared amid West Ham United interest
Rangers are not said to currently be in the hunt for West Ham United target Jarne Steuckers, according to Sacha Tavolieri.
In a post on X [28 May], the journalist confirmed there was no pursuit for Belgian midfielder Steuckers from compatriot Philippe Clement in response to The Rangers Journal.
West Ham were reportedly interested in securing the services of Steuckers this summer, after the Belgium Under-21 international hit seven goals and seven assists in all competitions for Sint-Truiden this season.
Tavolieri shared: “There’s no current interest from Rangers for Jarne Steuckers. The club know him, but he’s not in their list for the summer.”
Leeds United and Southampton – who faced off in the Championship play-off final with Saints earning a spot back in the Premier League – have also been credited with an interest [GiveMeSport, 18 April] in the 22-year-old, along with West Ham.
Rangers in multiple transfer talks
Whilst Rangers will certainly be revamping their squad – a process already underway with the confirmed signing of Jefte – it appears Steuckers will not be making the move to Scotland.
The midfielder’s excellent season in Belgium after returning from a loan spell in the Netherlands last year has appeared to alert clubs in the UK, but Clement and his team are already underway with other targets.
Steuckers is a versatile player, branded as a creative midfielder but has often played out wide – in terms of attacking players, Rangers are looking to strike new agreements for loan duo Abdallah Sima and Oscar Cortes.
The recruitment at Ibrox has to be spot on and they must hit the ground running ahead of next season, with Clement looking to be given the first few weeks of the 2024-25 season to prove he can maintain a pole position for Rangers to topple Celtic as the number one in Scotland.
In what will be a long window full of hurdles, and it could transpire that even without concrete interest now, Rangers may have to dip into the market for players like Steuckers as the months roll on.
