Rangers exit mooted for Todd Cantwell as Chris Jack shares ‘dispensable’ transfer update
Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell is “dispensable” this summer and could potentially leave Ibrox during the transfer window, according to Chris Jack.
The Englishman has a mixed season under Philippe Clement in Glasgow, impressing in patches but frustrating supporters with his actions on and off the pitch having flattered to deceive in the biggest matches.
Clement has already suggested that this summer could see a major squad rebuild at Ibrox and while it remains to be seen how many players could leave, Rangers Review journalist Jack has insisted Cantwell is not untouchable.
Writing for the Rangers Review (28 May) he said: “Has made headlines for the right and wrong reasons at various stages of the season.
“Some supporters are appreciative of what he brings to the team, while others believe he flatters to deceive. The No.10 role needs an upgrade this summer. As it stands, Cantwell is dispensable.”
Will Rangers and Philippe Clement sell Todd Cantwell in the summer transfer window?
When he is at his best, Cantwell can quite easily be one of Rangers’ most exciting and dangerous players as the Englishman is capable of pulling off magnificent pieces of skill to embarrass his opponents.
Unfortunately, more often than not the former Norwich City man is more focused on trying to start a fight on the field and antagonise his own supporters and therefore lets the biggest matches of the Gers’ season pass him by.

As Clement looks to put his own stamp on the squad this summer, it is hard to tell whether or not he will view Cantwell as a necessary evil required in the team, or a burden he could do without as he pushed for a first league title.
It will not be an easy decision to make for the Belgian as there a pros and cons to either side. Ultimately, Cantwell’s future may depend on what interest arises in him this summer but at the moment it is clear that he is not certain to stay at Ibrox.
