Pundit shares Rangers transfer budget this summer before Jack Butland sale
Tam McManus believes that Rangers have only up to £8million to spend on new signings this summer.
He believes that the club can get £10million if they decide to cash in on Jack Butland, with Leicester City, Southampton and Ipswich Town named as three clubs potentially keen on signing the England international.
If that goes ahead, McManus sees Philippe Clement getting an extra £5million or £6million for new signings.
He told PLZ Soccer on 27 May at 26:15: “I think Rangers might have six, seven, eight million to buy players if they get an extra 10 (from Butland’s sale), say there’s another five or six to the manager.
“It’s big money for them to strengthen the team.”
Rangers may resist Jack Butland sale this summer
While £10million is indeed a significant sum for Butland, it poses a dilemma for Gers and Clement.
On the one hand, the money could be instrumental in funding a much-needed squad rebuild, addressing various positions that require strengthening.
On the other, Butland has been a standout performer for the Ibrox outfit, arguably their best player of the season and his sale could potentially leave a significant void in the team.
The goalkeeper’s consistent performances have been a crucial factor in Rangers’ campaign and his departure would mean the club would need to find a suitable replacement.
This process could be challenging and time-consuming, potentially delaying or hindering the team’s progress in the upcoming season.
Furthermore, the £10 million from Butland’s sale, while substantial, may not be sufficient to cover the costs of multiple new signings needed for a comprehensive rebuild.
While the financial windfall from Butland’s potential sale could provide a short-term boost to the club’s transfer budget, the long-term implications of losing such a key player could set the club back in their pursuit of success.
