Keith Jackson hits out at Rangers in Liverpool message for Daily Record
Rangers are the polar opposites of Liverpool’s historic “mentality monsters” according to Keith Jackson, following their dismal end to the season.
The Daily Record journalist pulled no punches in his analysis of the 1-0 loss to Celtic in the Scottish Cup final, saying that Clement’s players didn’t have the mental strength to overcome their Old Firm rivals this season.
Jackson did not blame Clement directly but did lambast his side’s inability to make their dominance for much of the match count, after having a second-half goal disallowed for a foul in the box.
Writing for the Daily Record, Jackson said; “Even when Clement’s players are following the tactical commands of their manager, they still can’t quite be trusted to win the matches which are there to be won.
“Where Jurgen Klopp once famously branded his Liverpool side mentality monsters, Clement’s current collection are more like mentality meringues. Brittle, fragile and with a soft centre.”
Where do Rangers go from late-season collapse?
Rangers’ record in the final few months of this season makes for grim reading and saw them fall away at the final hurdles to lose both the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup to their arch-rivals in consecutive weeks.
Across April and May, they collected just four wins from 10 matches, recorded a draw and two losses to Celtic, and also fell to Motherwell and Ross County in the league as their title bid came off the rails.

Failing to capitalise on mixed Celtic form, Clement’s side ended the season eight points behind the Hoops and also lost in the 90th minute to an agonising Adam Idah winner at Hampden Park on Saturday (25 May).
With the season done and dusted, the Belgian now has free reign to put a broom through this Rangers squad and make it his own, and he’s already begun to do so with the signing of a new left-back, Jefte.
At least two more new arrivals are expected before the end of May, and following a campaign which fizzled out towards the end, Clement is looking to shape a side which can grab the Premiership bull by its proverbial horns right from the start of next season.
